“Country Al” is what my friends started calling me in the early ‘60’s, when I had no doubt I was a real bluegrass musician. As it turned out, I am anything but that, being Jewish,  urban and an advertising copywriter, with no redness on the back of my neck. But the nickname stuck, I guess because of its irony. Sometimes it’s right and sometimes it isn’t, you can decide for yourself. But if you happen to find a pattern, would you please share it with me? Thanks.

So now let’s cut to the chase - yes, I played with Jerry Garcia. I also played with Janis Joplin, Doc Watson, Doctor John, Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe, Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Clarence White and a couple others. With some I played a lot; with others maybe once or twice. But you’ll have to check out my blog if you’re interested in these experiences.
